Sisira Senavirathne, Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt
Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne assumed duties as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt on 27 January 2025. A career diplomat, he joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in January 2003 and possesses over 23 years of professional experience.
He has served in several capacities at Sri Lankan Missions overseas as well as at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Cairo, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Deputy Permanent Representative at the Embassy & Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Rome, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi, Minister Counsellor at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Manama, First Secretary and Counsellor at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Berlin, and Third Secretary and Second Secretary at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oslo.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Ambassador Senavirathne has held several key positions, including Director General of the Consular Affairs Division, Deputy Chief of Protocol, Director and Deputy Director of the Overseas Administration Division, and Assistant Director of the Europe, CIS, and Americas Division and the East Asia and Pacific Division.
He graduated from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka and earned a Master’s Degree in Political Economy of European Integration from the Berlin School of Economics and Law in Germany. Additionally, he has graduated in Advanced Security Cooperation Course 14-1 at the College of Security Studies, Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii.
